What is Dental Assisting?
Dental assistants are valuable members of the dental team. Their technical skills helps to support the dentist by patient care and chair side assisting dentists to complete exams and procedures. Most visibly, people may see dental assistant’s passing instruments, but that’s just the beginning of their technical and artistic skills. Other technical duties of a dental assistant may includes:
- Chart existing restorations, clinically missing teeth and appliances within the oral cavity
- Remove sutures
- Place and remove orthodontic ligatures
- Expose radiographs
- Place and remove rubber dam
- Assist in basic supportive chairside procedures
- Place and remove periodontal packs
- Take and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, etc.)
- Place and remove matrix
- 10. Apply topical drugs (silver diamine fluoride) as prescribed by dentist
